And it will leave your house smelling amazing! All it takes a handful of simple ingredients, like lemon slices, fresh rosemary, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla extract.
My sister has a green thumb, and has been trying to grow her own lemon trees and I absolutely can't wait to try some garden fresh lemons one day! Even if I have to wait another two years, since citrus trees do take a couple years to mature before you can enjoy their fruits.
In the mean time, buying store bought lemons, will have to suffice! And what better way to enjoy a fresh aroma than to create a potpourri that can simmer throughout the day!
Lemon Rosemary Potpourri
Last winter, I shared my holiday potpourri with cranberries and oranges. I loved having that on the stove during the winter and christmas months. It really does bring the coziness out. But once that christmas tree comes down, and the decorations are put away. I love greeting the fresh spring and summer air with a Lemon Rosemary Potpourri!
It really does provide such a beautiful fragrance that lingers throughout the house. And though, humidity in the south is not something to brag about, the extra moisture in the air helps keep your hair and skin hydrated as well:)
Using farm fresh or store bought ingredients are simple, convenient, and it's a great way to use up the extra herbs or fruits that are going bad or drying up.
Half Full Or Half Empty
With both of my potpourri recipes, you will want to top the water off in your saucepan, because the water will begin to evaporate the longer it simmers on the stove. Once most of the water has evaporated, you can keep refilling the pot until it's time to change out the wilted fruits and herbs.
You can also use a small or medium slow cooker for the as well! This way, you can just toss everything in without worrying and forgetting to add water throughout the day.
Try This Other Potpourri Recipe
- 2 Lemons, Sliced
- 3 Springs Rosemary
- 4-5 Sage Leaves
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract, optional
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks, optional
- Your favorite Essential Oils, optional
- Throw all of your fruits and herbs into a small sauce pan.
- Cover with water until everything is submerged.
- Heat over low heat and allow to simmer. Refilling throughout the day as needed.
- You can replace the spent ingredients with fresh as needed.
